I don’t know how to stop doing this. I don’t know how to keep going, either
I have all of these useful supplies that could help a lot of people. I will miss my cats and dogs.
We got our donation supplies up to a great full spot. And now I’m running out of time and energy to distribute them. We have enough volunteers for most things, but the hardest labor intensive part is on me, or me and Traci. No one has time on a Tuesday afternoon to lug all those bags down 3 flights of stairs. Then 4 hours later lug 4 totes full of clothing, plus blankets, food, etc. into the van.
Moving to Detroit made a lot of things easier, but the increasing restrictions and stipulations coming from Fort St Church made everything harder somehow. Working around the other teams’ never ending list of restrictions and restraints and their non-questionable, non-disclosed itinerary made “just helping people” a labyrinth of obstacles.
And the Vega’s still owe me ten million dollars. If I had that, then this would be no problem.
What I need is time.
Time to go after all of those dirty crooks now that I finally have a group of people who aren’t bought off and believe in actual law and justice. (Thank you Sen. Thomas Norton and Investigative journalist Rita Williams)
Time with my grandparents while I still got it.
So maybe the right TIME to do this mission will come back to me in a few months, or a year.
Time to get a grant so I can have a proper building to operate from. My basement just isn’t cutting it. A proper vehicle that can hold all the donations and volunteers we can use in a night.
We did so well. We did so MUCH good. It shouldn’t have to end.
But isn’t that what all things must do?
Next week will most likely be our last hurrah.
For three weeks after that we won’t be able to go out with the medical team. I can’t get any of the other teams who “couldn’t wait to have us come with them” to even call me back. It’s awesome.
Once again, my only days off are Sunday and Tuesday. No prep time. No day to prepare beforehand. After I get home from work at 4 am Tuesday morning, it’s just getting back up, balls to the wall from 8 am until 1 am, or until we drop, then back to work Wednesday for another 10-12 hours shift.
See? Insane.
Last hurrah-
Next Tuesday.
I’m going to load everything up to the 9’s. I thought about ordering Subway again. I’d buy actual soda pop and keep it nice and cold. I want to load up on extra dog and cat food for a couple of people.
It will be me and Traci vs. the streets of Detroit. Since the beginning. For 5 ½ years on the street. 11 years and running for this mission. 10 of them with Traci.
Everyone has done so much. It slays me that I can’t make it enough to do enough.
But everything we’ve done, we’ve done with gusto.
Because that’s how we do it in Detroit.
Amen.
